The Oregon Trail is a game franchise that combines adventure, settlement and survival. In Boom Town, players build, grow, craft and harvest as they turn the small frontier village of Independence, MO into a thriving town!
The mission begins with an in-game Bison event, where the game's Cowgirl character updates players about bison being shot just for sport, and requests their help to save the great bison of the West from going extinct. Players who complete the listed event tasks will be compensated for their support with special bison trophies with a variety of designs to decorate their towns!
While the event is taking place, social posts will be shared with information about the overhunting and wasteful killing of bison during westward expansion. Players will be prompted to engage with the event with push notifications and inbox messages, and at the same time, new players will take notice of the new content thanks to store event cards.
As the westward migration along the Oregon Trail continued, hunters consistently killed a few bison each day, but due to the heat and harsh environmental conditions, the meat would spoil, resulting in significant waste. To connect this to modern-day food waste, players will be reminded about food waste and its preservation, challenged to upload videos of them cooking leftover meals, or sharing their low-waste recipes or food preservation tips to make groceries last longer at home.
With a greater awareness about environment preservation, players should reflect on the impact we humans have on nature, and what some do to animals just for fun. The aim is for players to learn from the past and embrace the responsibility to conserve and preserve our natural resources for future generations.
