Playing for the Planet announces nominees for the inaugural Playing for the Planet Awards

Today, the Playing for the Planet Alliance, an initiative that supports the video games industry to decarbonise and take action for the environment,announced the nominees for the first ever Playing for the Planet Awards. The awards, set to be hosted at popular online and in person at mobile game developer Metacore’s office in Helsinki, Finland, will honor companies that have shown a commitment to sustainability, climate and the environment through varying initiatives in 2024, including Playing for the Planet’s 5th edition of its Green Game Jam.

Facilitated, by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Playing for the Planet will celebrate progress in the industry with awards will feature 13 categories that recognize nominees based on a variety of metrics, including storytelling and activations within games, green tech to improve the energy cost of running games, and the work by studios and individuals alike to pioneer decarbonisation and set examples for the wider industry.
